Honorary Walker by Proxy Program

Join the team from afar and help take us one step closer to our cures

Become a "Walker by Proxy"! A designated Walker will wear your name tag and walk for you in your honor in Columbus, Ohio on October 2. We’ll post your photo or note on the special Walker by Proxy board. Registration is $25 and you'll receive a TeamWalk t-shirt (sizes aren't guaranteed - register early!).  The Registration Fee covers the cost of your t-shirt, packaging and mailing so that 100% of your Sponsorships goes right to Research Awards and nothing is lost to event expenses. You'll collect donations in your spirit, just as though you were walking in Columbus! If you’d like, you can hold your own family TeamWalk in your community! You can even form your Walker by Proxy Team and ask your family members and close friends to participate, too.

How to raise sponsorships: The most effective way to get sponsorships is to ask your family and friends directly. The next-best way is a letter-writing campaign. Click here for a sample letter and tips on getting your sponsorships. Print out this Sponsorship Page (PDF file) to track your sponsorships and mail in with your donations. Online Registration

Online Registration is a 2-step process. First, Register your name(s) and T-shirt sizes in the section under Step One to register. Then, click the "Submit" button at the bottom of it.  You will be sent to a Confirmation Page.  Scroll down to click on the "Return to Registration" link at the bottom of it, which will bring you back to this Registration webpage. Then, follow the directions in Step Two Payment to make your online payment through PayPal (a secure site for credit card payments).

Why Your Support Matters

There is currently no treatment to prevent, stop or reverse the degenerative process in PLS or HSP. These diseases attack one’s ability to walk, often leaving their victims in wheelchairs. They can also rob people of the ability to use their hands and arms, and even to speak or cause other neurological problems as well. The Spastic Paraplegia Foundation is the only organization in the Americas that is dedicated to raising funds specifically for HSP and PLS research. The organization is 100% volunteer managed and the TeamWalk For Our Cures is the national, community event to raise funds for research.

“TeamWalk Connections” are our annual community efforts to raise funds for research to find the cure for SPF diseases and to help people affected by the conditions. All sponsorship donations support SPF Research Awards.
