Scooters - thoughts to consider before buying
I have been told by my doctor that anytime I'm ready to get a scooter he will do whatever it takes for me to receive one. I don't own a scooter as of yet, but I have found that by asking people that use scooters usually produces some very interesting feedback. Here are some of the things I have been considering so when it comes time for me to get a scooter I might be better informed. I am hoping you will get some suggestion from some scooter users on this list so I can take a few notes. My list is in no particular order.
- The higher the ground clearance is the less bottoming out you will experience on thresholds etc.
- Am I going to use it on grass or pavement?
- Most 4 wheelers have more clearance for your feet when getting on and off since the front wheel on 3 wheelers is in the middle
- A swivel seat is nice. You can pull right up to a table and swivel around and eat or talk.
- What is my need going to be in the future?
- How am I going to transport it?
- 4 wheelers produce a lower center of gravity although most 3 wheelers seem to be very stable
- Speed? Does the scooter go fast enough for my needs?
- Charged up time/mileage. Most scooters claim to have a decent run time per charge. Does it meet my needs?
- Does my insurance policy cover scooters?
- Go to a scooter type store and shop a bit if I am able.
- There are a bunch out there on the market.
- Turning radius?
- Am I going to live on the scooter or just use it from time to time.
- Am I going to use it in the house or outside...or both?
- Will I need ramps?
It looks like the best one I have found for me is the "go go ultra"... I wish I could find a place that would let me try one out for a few weeks LOL.
